Sixmilebridge 1-11
Clarecastle 3-10
Sixmilebridge had home advantage for this round three game against a strong Clarecastle side last Sunday morning. The game was fast paced from the beginning with the first score for the ‘Bridge coming after 2mins from a Jack Corry free, however Clarecastle quickly responded with a score of their own a minute later with a well taken point by Cian Galvin. The sides continued to match each other in physicality for the early minutes of the first half but scores were not to come again until the 8th minute when both sides exchanged points from frees. A few great saves from Cian Fawl kept the sides neck and neck for the majority of the first half until Josh Brack found a gap in the Sixmilebridge defence to strike through for goal leaving the sides 1-4 to 0-6 at half time, with Clarecastle leading by the minimum.
The second half opened with only one change to the home side with Luke Keogh replacing Leon Kelly in corner forward, a change which allowed for a pivotal goal in the 7th minute for the ‘Bridge after Shane White’s pass to Keogh set him up for a well taken score. As the sides continued to take their points, a positional change for Clarecastle set them up for their second goal when Darragh Healy was moved upfront and, after receiving a pass from Harry Ward, rattled the Sixmilebridge net. The ‘Bridge however continued to battle and with great defending from Ferdia Ó Loináin, Storm Devanney and Alex Frost goal chances were created for the home side which, due to great defending from Clarecastle, were unfortunately not converted. A third goal for Clarecastle, again from Healy, in the dying minutes of the game proved to widen the gap too much for a comeback from Sixmilebridge although Colin Kelly was unfortunate not to get a score from his efforts in front of the goal. The final score was 3-10 to 1-11 to the Magpies but the ‘Bridge boys must be commended for their efforts throughout, particularly Alex Frost, Adam Breen and Conor Flynn, who were crucial in creating many of the home sides scores.
