Sixmilebridge - Barry Quinn U10 Tournament Winners 2017
The much anticipated Barry Quinn U10 Tournament took place this morning in O'Garney Park with teams from Ballyea (2), Newtownshandrum and Mungret taking part. Sixmilebridge, with 38 players on the Under 10 roster, divided our panel into 2 evenly matched squads.
In Group 1 our 'Sixmilebridge Yellow' squad started their campaign with a draw against 'Ballyea Black'. The squad then kicked on with a hard fought 3-1 to 2-1 victory over Mungret to top the Group.
Over in Group 2 our 'Sixmilebridge Blue' squad had victories over 'Ballyea Amber' and holders Newtownshandrum to also top their group.
After a quick break for tea and sandwiches the Semi-Finals saw 'Sixmilebridge Blue' account for Mungret while 'Sixmilebridge Yellow' narrowly squeezed past Newtownshandrum.
With 2 Bridge teams in the Final, the decision was made to lengthen the pitch and go 15-aside to ensure all the boys got as much playing time as possible. After a great battle the Barry Quinn Memorial Cup was presented by Dawn Quinn (Barrys sister) to both Darragh Whyte (Blue captain) and Dylan Keogh (Yellow captain). Barry's nephew (also Barry) was in attendance today and we look forward to seeing him compete in this tournament in the future!
Thanks to everyone who helped out today - those who brought food, those who helped out with the catering and tidy up, the referees and umpires. Thanks to the visiting teams and especially Newtownshandum and Mungret for playing out the 3rd\4th place playoff. Special shout out to Orla Chaplin who popped in 'for a few minutes' to help set things up this morning and ended up being the last to leave this afternoon!
